History

The AGB Portable EDM Model 1 was first developed between 1980 and 1989 by Gordon Engineering and manufactured for sale shortly afterward. Gordon Engineering continues to manufacture and develop the machine to the present day. The Model 1 was discontinued in 2007 when the much improved model 2 took its place. The improvements were primarily in the control unit. The original analogue/digital control in the Model 1 has been replaced with software driven CPU for complete digital control in the Model 2. The Model 1 was limited to using electrodes larger than 1/16 inch due to small current control limitations. In the Model 2 the current (amperage) is controlled with a PWM, FET solid state switch, allowing for very precise control of the current over a wide range of electrode sizes to as small as .020″ diameter and smaller. A few other features were also added in the Model 2 including Touch and Home buttons, 8 power/current settings.

The primary improvements to the model 2 machine tool were the conversion to linear ball slides, and the total redesign of the vibrator head assembly.

The model 1 and model 2 are not compatible with one another and are not to be used interchangeably.
